Why
not G4?
Good question..
But think about it. The only real advantage of G4 is the
Altivec processor, which is rarely utilized, except for
video processing. And the Wallstreet is really not set
up for video processing anyway, so if you WERE going to
do video, you'd save that extra $150, and get a Pismo.
So, our opinion is, get the Allegro, save your pennies,
and get on with life!
Better
Reliability
The bottom line
is, will this thing function? The answer is yes! We have
been able to reduce processor heat by nearly 50% COOLER
than even the G3 Powerbook Pismo! Our processor operates
at a balmy 55C (that's 131F for you Americans!). And cool
is good--this means great reliability for your processor,
and excellent performance for you!
What
about PANTHER & TIGER?
We get this question
daily. The short answer is YES, it'll work fine! In fact,
our G4/500 card will allow your Wallstreet to run faster
than any competitors' upgrade card on OSX.
The Wallstreet
WILL run Panther and Tiger. However, it requires use of
XPostFacto,
a third party software package. We know it works, as we
often see machines in our shop running XPostFacto.
We will be glad
to help you with a processor, and RAM for your Powerbook,
and we will be glad to point you to the web resources
for getting the most help for XPostFacto.
Purchase requires
return of your original Wallstreet card. A $30 core
charge will be refunded upon receipt of test good wallstreet
series II cards. Core boards must have cache installed
to qualify for core rebate. Partially working or series
I cards may be eligible for partial rebate. Please allow
up to 10 business days for testing and rebate.
Warranty: units
are warranted for 1yr from date of purchase. Original
cards missing cache on board are not eligible for core
rebate.
OSX COMPATABILITY:
Our cards are AS compatable as original Apple cards.
If you wish to upgrade to 10.3 or higher, you will still
need to install a 3rd party driver (such as XpostFacto),
to allow yourr Wallstreet to boot running 10.3 or higher.
