G4 Powerbook Aluminum RAM slot repair

Many people have experienced sudden loss of the Powerbook G4 RAM slots, as has been noted on numerous sites. This affects all "Aluminum" series Powerbooks (1ghz-1.67ghz).

Apple has offered extended coverage of this for certain systems, depending upon the serial number of the system. Machines with serial numbers in the following range are currently eligible for coverage: W8503xxxxxx through W8518xxxxxx. See Apple's site for more information on coverage.

By comparison, Apple's replacement cost for the logic board ranges from $549 ~ 1008.00 (dealer cost)! And a replacement board from Apple is only covered by a 90 day warranty!
