Apple's site specs show
the max for the Powerbook Pismo at 512. But it WILL run more- and here is proof!!!
The only reason for the "discrepancy" is that at the time (2000) when Apple
spec'd the Pismo, 512mb "low profile" cards had not been developed yet,
so they spec'd the machine with the most RAM you could buy at that time (512mb).
Since then, new, smaller cards are available, so take advantage of it, and get some
serious power!
There is only ONE complication
while running a 1gb kit. You can't run Virtual Memory... However. Do you REALLY NEED
to run Virtual Memory when you've got a GIG of RAM??? No you don't.. VM should be
a last ditch effort; it hurts your performance, drops your stability, and slows down
your machine's processing ability..
The Pismo is also known
as the Powerbook 2000, or the Firewire. To specify, look at your serial#.
if the third digit is a 0, it is the Pismo. Or look at the picture below for clarification.
